LINDA
Linda is a female bottlenose dolphin, probably born in 1976 and captured between 1980 and 1982, off the southeastern coast of Texas, United States. Initially owned by the "Dolfirado" in the small town of Stein, in the province of Limburg (Germany), Linda was later transferred on June 24, 1988 to the Boudewijn SeaPark, in the city of Bruges (Belgium) together with two other dolphins: a female named Puck and a male named Tex, with whom Linda conceived her first baby, who was then born on July 1st, 1990. The calf lived only a few days. After another stillborn in 1998, on June 23, 1999 the third child of Linda and Tex was born, a male who will later be called Milo (who died in 2009).
On 12 August 2003, the last calf of Linda and Tex was born: another male later called Mateo. In that same year, Tex will be transferred to Marineland Antibés, in France, where unfortunately he will die only two years later.
When the Boudewijn SeaPark began moving some of its dolphins between different European facilities, Linda and her son Mateo found a new home at the Aquarium of Genoa, Italy, where they arrived in 2006. A dolphin named Beta already lived in the Italian facility.
When Beta died on October 12, 2008 due to a cardiovascular collapse, Linda and Mateo were the only dolphins left in the facility: still to be attributed truthfully, it would seem that Linda turned out to be pregnant with her own son, a pregnancy which then resulted in abortion on October 11, 2010. In February 2012, Mateo was again transferred to another European facility, Marineland Mallorca (Spain).
Left alone for a month, in April of the same year Linda made the acquaintance of a male named Teide, transferred from the Palablù of Gardaland following the definitive closure of the dolphinarium inside the amusement park. By integrating very well with Teide, Linda also met another dolphin of Palablù: it is a young female named Naù, transferred to the Aquarium of Genoa in March 2013. Soon, Linda made the same acquaintance with the last three dolphins of the Palablù that were Betty, Robin and little Mia.
Transferred to the new pool complex of the Cetacean Pavilion together with the other dolphins, Linda stayed with them for a short time, when in the spring of 2014 she returned definitely to the Boudewijn SeaPark.
