KING
King is a male bottlenose dolphin born on October 25, 1992 at ZooMarine Algarve, Portugal. His parents are Cher and Sam. After his childhood and part of his youth spent in Portugal, in August 2005 he was definitively transferred to the ZooMarine Torvaianica, near Rome, where he acquired the position of dominant male. Soon, when the females who shared the pool with him came of age, King became a father three times. On September 19, 2012, the first calf was born at ZooMarine, a female later called "Thai", daughter of King and Leah. Two years later, on October 12, 2014, another adult female named Quina gave birth to King's second child, a male later named "Enea".
King's third daughter was born on October 19, 2017, as well as Leah's second daughter, who will later be called "Luna". A few months earlier, in August of that same year, little Enea tragically died following a serious infection of the internal organs.
How to recognize King
- King's body size is sturdy and imposing.
- Its short rostrum is slightly bent upwards and has a series of evident white spots on its tip.
- The skin color tends to be darker than that of other bottlenose dolphins.
We know little about King's character, but we do know that trainers find it a lot of fun to work with him. It seems that King never disdains the pampering and curiosity of visitors.
