GOLIA
Golia is a male bottlenose dolphin born on 6 July 1993 at the Dolphin Nursery in Cattolica. His parents are Isa and Bravo. After his childhood in Cattolica, in 2001 Golia was transferred to the Aquarium of Genoa together with his younger brother, Silver. The transfer probably took place following the death of his mother Isa. Between 2004 and 2005, Golia arrived at Oltremare in Riccione together with his brother Silver, who unfortunately died in 2006 due to acute heart failure. In the period between the year 2009 and the year 2013, Golia was repeatedly transferred to the ZooSafari in Fasano to participate in the shows during the summer season, together with his three half-brothers such as Ulisse, Tabo and Achille. In November 2013, he definitively returned to Oltremare following the closure of the Fasano dolphinarium.
How to recognize Golia
- Golia's skin color is much darker than that of other bottlenose dolphins. It is thought that this pigmentation has inherited it from the mother.
- The shape of the rostrum is crooked and slightly pronounced. The trainers gave him the nickname "Duck" or "Popo" thanks to that bizarre shape.
- Its dorsal fin, sickle-shaped, has a sort of difference in height in the upper part.
Initially known for his lazy and slow temperament, as he progressed into adulthood and the change in the group of bottlenose dolphins, Golia conferred a slightly surprising agility, as well as a sturdy and strong build.
